Selim got Aynur excited about traveling. Us with Ahmet Abhi and Aynur. These were the folks whose property we were staying on after Baki invited us. We ended up getting to know them in the morning after they asked if we needed water. This photo is after we had çay and everyone but Ahmet Abhi went for a swim in the sea. You can see Aynur’s swim clothes. This outfit for swimming is quite popular among women here. I’ve seen it in pink and purple. I’m wearing the knitted headband that Aynur gave me. It was a very sweet present 🙂 Plums for the road from Aynur. Thanks! Selim enjoying a Hatay-style tavuk doner. The difference is the sauce and the wrap. Regular doners don’t have sauce but this one has a delicious tomato-based sauce that drenches the bread. We both prefer hatay-style to regular. After riding our bikes, we walked around town. Per usual, we looked a bit different and a bit dirtier than everyone else. You might notice that the Turkish language uses the latin alphabet though this was not the until 1929. Before then, it used the Arabic script. You see lots of mosques in our Turkey photos though it is officially a laic state though muslim-majority. They’ve been a big part of our trip and the influence of Islam is strongly felt here. We stopped for a nap on the beach. One couple offered us çay and another family offered us kofte sandwiches with onion, cucumber, and tomato. Kofte is just a word for meatball but they are rather delicious. This was my first kofte even though it’s really easy to find here. It was really green on this section of the route. Fish farm View from the road. Cyclist’s nightmare are tunnels, though this one is super short. You can see the other end even in the picture. If I’m wearing a backpack, it probably means I’m carrying eggs. Selim says it’s best not to carry anything on your back for the most part when cycling. There were so many families camping on this beach and pretty clean given the traffic. There were bathrooms and outdoor showers available. We made dinner which was a bit challenging because it was windy. That’s one downside of our kitchen. The fire goes out with strong wind. In this situation, we use our handy mattress to act as a shield. After dinner, Selim saw our neighbors making a fire and was inspired. It turned out they were super friendly and brought him lit kindling to get his started. They also lent us chairs…really a luxury for us. alyssa.liguori View All Posts Post navigation Previous Post Black Sea Day 5: Giresun ContinuedNext PostBlack Sea Day 7: Cycling Ordu
